Ghorba (2020 - 2022)
Ghorba is a Moroccan word with no direct translation, used to express the particular sense of longing experienced by immigrants when they are far from home; the feeling of living in a place that does not fully recognize them as one of its own.
Growing up between two societies from an early age has profound effects on the identity of the children of immigrants. Through this project, the author explores his cultural hybridity and how it has shaped his worldview: when he goes to Morocco, he is seen as Spanish, but when he is in Spain, he is always Moroccan. In other words, he is always “the other.”
By combining images from his family’s photo albums with photographs he has taken himself, he seeks to create a link between past and present, revealing the weight of the immigrant legacy on the next generation.
His goal is to find a point of cohesion between these two cultures that shape his identity, searching for answers within his family heritage, the influence of religion, and the society in which he lives.
